The English Lyric Spirit is a vocal chamber recital highlighting the songs of John Ireland and several of his contemporaries, including his student Benjamin Britten. A large portion of the program features the music of Ireland.
This project explores why English repertoire deserves the same passion and interpretive commitment often given to Italian, German, and French song. English art song demands skill, imagination, and deep engagement—and this recital aims to celebrate that.
The program also showcases the remarkable poetry found throughout this repertoire, reminding us that poetry can be appreciated in every season of life. The music of John Ireland offers an ideal way to share that message.
