All students who have completed their education outside of the U.S. must meet the University's English Language Proficiency Requirement.

The English Language Proficiency Requirement may be met in one of the following ways:

Academic Experience

Student must have completed one or more of the following: 

  • Completion of 30 transferable semester hours, to include the equivalent of English 101 and English 102, at an accredited United States college or university (undergraduate applicants only).  
  • Completion of four consecutive years of secondary education (high school) OR completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the following countries:

    • Antigua
    • Australia
    • Bahamas
    • Barbados
    • Belize
    • British Virgin Islands
    • Canada (except Quebec)
    • Dominica
    • Ghana
    • Grenada
    • Guyana
    • Ireland
    • Jamaica
    • New Zealand
    • Nigeria
    • South Africa
    • St. Kitts and Nevis
    • St. Lucia
    • St. Vincent and the Grenadines
    • Tobago
    • Trinidad
    • Uganda
    • United Kingdom
    • US Virgin Islands

English Language Proficiency Examinations

Students who do not meet the Academic Experience outlined above will be required to complete one of the following exams. Students must submit official test scores only. International students will be required to enroll in the 0-credit English Language and Academic Skills (ELP-199) course unless the student is exempt based on their test scores or Academic Experience.
